Owens Corning has added an R-20 offering to its ProPink EcoTouch insulation line of fiberglass batt products. The new product delivers all the same thermal and acoustical qualities, and is code-compliant to achieve energy-efficiency and many green building certifications. The batts can easily be cut and split for insulating small spaces and oddly shaped cavities.
Atlas Wall is already meeting the new code requirements with its Rboard sheathing material. The rigid foam board is cost-effective, energy efficient, and can serve as a component for an exterior wall assembly. A 3.5” thick sheet of Rboard offers an R-21.7
Spray polyurethane foam is another type of insulation that is already meeting the new energy codes. Closed-cell spray foam offers an industry standard of approximately R-7 per inch, allowing it to meet code in both 2x6 and 2x4 walls. Open-cell spray foam offers an industry standard of approximately R-3.8 per inch, allowing it to meet code in 2x6 walls if sprayed to just about full stud thickness.
